Skinstad scores in comeback
April 27, 2002
Bob Skinstad made a scoring return from injury as Western Province recorded their first Vodacom Cup win of the season with a 28-12 Shield victory at Newlands. The Springbok captain has been out of action for a couple of months after undergoing a shoulder operation after picking up an injury in the Test against the USA Eagles in December. His presence clearly lifted the Cape Town side as they scored a further three tries, while also keeping the visitors tryless. Joining Skinstad with five-pointers wingers Jeffrey Stevens and Patrick Peterson, and flanker Fiela van Zyl. The Griffons could only reply with four Slang Roux penalties. Scorers: Western Province - Tries: Bob Skinstad, Jeffrey Stevens, Fiela van Zyl, Patrick Peterson; Conversion: Chris Rossouw; Penalties: Rossouw, Eric Olivier. Griffons - Penalties: Slang Roux (4). |
