Fresh injury concerns for Dallaglio
May 4, 2002

Lawrence Dallaglio is facing a club v country crisis decision as he ponders over a hand injury that needs an operation.

The dilemma was revealed by Warren Gatland, Wasps' director of rugby, after Dallaglio had been sin-binned in the Zurich Premiership clash against Northampton Saints at Loftus Road.

The Wasps skipper was due to see a doctor later on Saturday night following the 17-6 victory.

Gatland said his skipper was torn between waiting to play a vital league game for Wasps against Bath next week - or risk putting his England place on the Argentina tour at risk.

Gatland said: "There are worries about the tendon being loose. I'm leaving the decision on the operation to Lawrence.

"It would seem that if he doesn't have the operation the injury could get much worse".

He added: "Lawrence needs the operation, but he has to make the decision when to have it done."

Dallaglio was not available for comment but it is understood the operation would mean he would be out of action for at least six weeks."
