Burke looking to break Jade jinx
May 9, 2002

The Waratahs' Matt Burke is hoping to break his duck at the Jade Stadium on Saturday when his side take on the Crusaders.

Christchurch has not been a happy hunting ground for the Sydneysiders, who lost here 16-21 in 1996, 12-33 in 1998 and 13-22 in 2000.

Burke, who won here with the Wallabies in 1998, acknowledged that Jade Stadium had been a bogey ground for many touring sides.

"But the team have had something to do with it," he quipped. "That's the hurdle we have to overcome to start with. But then Jade Stadium has been a hard ground to win at for a number of teams.

"We're just looking to put in a good performance to start with, and get some confidence back in terms of playing some good football, which is going to be difficult against these guys."

"They are the dominant team in Super 12. They're going for 11 out of 11 (wins) which has never been done before and they will want to prove something to themselves and their crowd.

"It's going to be a tough ask for us. But we've got a good team, unfortunately we're coming off a loss, but that could help us in a way."
