McBain critical of Dwyer
May 10, 2002

Queensland coach Mark McBain has criticised his New South Wales counterpart Bob Dwyer for his selections ahead of the final round of the Super 12.

The Waratahs meet the Crusaders in Christchurch in a top-of-the-table clash on Saturday, but have made seven changes. The result has no influence on the ladder with the Crusaders securing No.1 spot last week and the Waratahs safe in second, unless the Reds achieve a huge win against the Highlanders on Saturday.

The Crusaders have named a strong line-up as they bid for a record 11 preliminary game victories. The Blues went through the season undefeated in 1997, but had one draw.

McBain is in Dunedin preparing his side for Saturday's must-win game against the Highlanders at Carisbrook and questioned Dwyer's suggestion to give his replacements more game time.

"I don't know what NSW are up to, I can't understand why they dropped seven players," McBain told AAP. "Is that to give them an excuse to lose, I don't know what is the go there.

"I think you want to be playing into some form when you can come into the finals. Anyway, that's up to him (Dwyer). I suppose I am an interested observer."
