Chiefs end on a high

The Chiefs have handed the Hurricanes the unwanted title of worst New Zealand side in the Super 12 with a 44-20 victory in Waikato.

The Chiefs scored six tries to three and led 20-3 at half-time to give their fans something to cheer about after a disappointing season.

Nick Collins scored a hat-trick for the Chiefs, Bruce Reihana dominated the midfield to score twice, while Roger Randle took his season try tally to 12.

The Chiefs totally dominated the game with control in all facets with the Hurricanes seeing little ball before half-time.

The Chiefs jump from ninth to seventh on the ladder with 24 points, one ahead of the inconsistent Hurricanes. With the Stormers expected to beat the Bulls, the Chiefs are likely to finish eighth with the Hurricanes ninth.

The Hurricanes were threatening a spot in the final four with their victory against the Brumbies in Week 8, but since then have stalled. The following week the Hurricanes had the bye, followed by the disastrous loss to the Waratahs and last week's loss to the Crusaders.
