Straueli announces Springbok trialists

Springbok coach Rudolf Straueli has announced the names of 46 players who will attend the national trials in Pretoria on Sunday.

At the announcement Straeuli also confirmed that only trialists would be eligible to be considered for the Springbok team and he will name his first test squad of 22, to play Wales in Bloemfontein on June 8, on Tuesday, May 21.

Several Springboks were not considered because of injury, but the Bok coach has initiated a recovery programme aimed at selecting the majority of the injured Boks for the SA 'A' match against Argentina in June.

The Bok coach has also consulted with each provincial union's medical team on the recovery of the injured Springboks. On the basis of these discussions, the following players will be put through an SA Rugby Pty Ltd recovery program in the hope that they will be available for selection in the SA 'A' team to play Argentina in June.

Medical opinion is that the following players will be out of action for an extended period, which could rule them out of the Vodacom Tri-nations. Their situation will be monitored and should their recovery be quicker than anticipated they will also be considered for the SA 'A' match against Argentina.

The following Springboks were not considered because of pending overseas commitments:

Selborne Boome, due to return to South Africa, still has club commitments in France.
