England manager Clive Woodward has named 12 uncapped players in his squad to face the Barbarians at Twickenham on May 26.

Several players, including Lawrence Dallaglio, Iain Balshaw, Mike Tindall and Declan Danaher, will miss the non-cap fixture through injury.

Four others - Josh Lewsey, Michael Stephenson, Ben Johnston and Nick Duncombe - have been switched to England's squad for the May 24-25 London Sevens, while fly-half Jonny Wilkinson is rested and wing Ben Cohen drops out.

Cohen has already played a maximum 32 games for club and country, under the England Rugby Limited agreement thrashed out earlier this season.

Into Woodward's squad come the exciting Gloucester wing James Simpson-Daniel, Bristol prospect Phil Christophers, South Africa-born London Irish backs Michael Horak and Geoff Appleford, Leeds wing Dan Scarbrough, Northampton forwards Robbie Morris and Grant Seely, together with Newcastle lock Hugh Vyvyan.

No players from Leicester or Sale were considered because of those clubs' respective European finals on May 25 and 26.

"The changes take into account injuries and England sevens selection," Woodward said.

"I welcome the new players to the England squad. They will have the opportunity to impress before final selection next Wednesday, and I am sure that they will benefit from the experience of being involved with the England set-up."

"I have talked to Jonny, and we've both decided that he should not be involved in the Barbarians match," Woodward added.

"Jonny has had a very long season, and is not part of my plans for Argentina. His omission from the squad will offer the opportunity for one of the other players to step up and prove to me that they can perform at international level."
