Ireland squad to tour New Zealand
May 16, 2002

Ireland coach Eddie O'Sullivan has announced his 26-man squad to tour New Zealand next month with Lions flanker David Wallace the most notable omission.

O'Sullivan has left two places open in his squad, one amongst the backs and the other in the forwards that he hopes Shane Horgan and Anthony Foley will fill respectively when they recover from injury.

Wallace makes way for his Munster team-mate Alan Quinlan, while there is also no room in the squad for another Lions, Ulster wing Tyron Howe. Into the backs comes London Irish winger Justin Bishop along with Munster pair John Kelly and Anthony Horgan.

Shane Byrne will take over from Frankie Sheahan as understudy to hooker Keith Wood.

Kevin Maggs, Denis Hickie, Jonathan Bell, Kieron Dawson, Emmet Byrne and Jeremy Davidson are all ruled out due to injury.
