May into England 7s squad

Newcastle centre Tom May has been drafted into the England Sevens squad for the London leg of the IRB World Series, which begins at Twickenham on May 24.

England coach Joe Lydon, who named his initial 13-man party on Tuesday, was looking to bolster the ranks in preparation for the tournament and felt May had the ideal credentials.

"We were always looking to put in more names and to boost the squad," he said.

"Tom has been around the A team and the fringes of the senior team and we thought the stronger squad the better.

"We have been in dialogue with the Clive Woodward and we know at this stage of the season it is important to have a large squad."

May is an injury doubt for Newcastle's Zurich Championship play-off against Gloucester at the weekend, but will be present when the England squad come together on Monday to begin preparations for the two-day tournament.
