Brown ruled out for three months

Otago's Tony Brown has ruled himself out of rugby for three months as he tries to recover from a hamstring injury that he carried throughout the Super 12 competition.

The news means that Brown, a regular in the New Zealand squad, will miss the All Blacks' Test against Italy next month, as well as the Bledisloe Cup and Tri-Nations campaign against Australia and South Africa.

Brown revealed he has carried the injury while playing for the Highlanders in the Super 12. He missed their loss to Canterbury last week in the semi-finals.

"It just deteriorated to the extent that I just couldn't play full-on,"

"It's frustrating but I have to get it right."

The All Blacks squad for the June 8 test against Italy will be named next Monday, with Andrew Mehrtens likely to be named as fly-half with Auckalnd player Carlos Spencer likely to replace Brown as Mehrtens' back-up.

Meanwhile, tickets for the August 3 Bledisloe Cup clash between Australia and New Zealand at Stadium Australia have sold out in 10 minutes on Wednesday morning.

Fans queued from 6pm on Tuesday to obtain some of the 10,000 tickets made available to the public for the match.
