Bledisloe tickets sell like hot cakes
May 22, 2002

The ten thousand tickets on sale to the general public for the August 3 Bledisloe Cup clash between Australia and New Zealand in Sydney sold out in 10 minutes on Wednesday.

The Tri Nations clash will take place at the 80,000 capacity Olympic Stadium, reduced from 91,000 last year, and members of the public braved the cold to queue for the limited number of tickets.

The remainder of the tickets will be distributed to rugby clubs and membership groups, Olympic Stadium members and New Zealand tour packages, the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) said.

An ARU statement said it was trying to balance the expectations of the grassroots rugby community with those of the general public who are keen to see Test match rugby.

The Wallabies triumphed 29-26 in last year's Bledisloe Cup Test in Sydney, with a thrilling last-minute try by Toutai Kefu marking World Cup-winning captain John Eales' farewell international.
