Waratahs flanker Phil Waugh has undergone successful ankle surgery in Sydney.

The operation was to correct an irritation of the tendons which has hampered the Wallaby backrower for several weeks.

New South Wales doctor, Sharron Flahive said today that Waugh can look forward to a strong recovery.

"The surgery went very well and Phil should be out of a cast in a few weeks before resuming training in three to four months," said Dr Flahive.

Waugh will miss the entire domestic Bundaberg Rum Rugby Series but he`s hoping to be available for the Spring Tour to Argentina and Europe.
