O'Mahony signs new two year deal

Saracens winger Darragh O'Mahony has signed a new two-year deal that will see the Irishman stay at Vicarage Road until 2004.

Since joining Saracens some three years ago back in 1999 from Bedford, 28-year-old Darragh has amassed a total of 37 tries for the Men in Black. The try count though is not important to him, it's success that he wants and it's success with Saracens:

"When I joined the club three years ago, I joined because I wanted to win things. My outlook hasn't changed and I'm delighted to have agreed a new deal with the club because I'm desperate to achieve success here."

"I made no secret towards the end of the season that I wanted to stay and as long as the club put an offer on the table, I was never going anywhere else. The last couple of seasons haven't been the best and I feel that personally I still have a lot left to give.

"With the players we've got, the ones that are rumoured to be signing, plus the control of Wayne Shelford, it's going to a very exciting time at the club and I'm very optimistic about what we're going achieve and pleased that I'm going to be part of it."

Darragh's commitment to the club hasn't gone unnoticed and despite only a brief initial period with the club, he has done enough to impress Shelford, something that Saracens Chief Executive, Peter Deakin, believes is key:

"Darragh's a good lad with great ability," explained Peter. "The team as a whole didn't perform at a high enough level last season and stuck on the wing, he suffered. I know that Wayne (Shelford) has been impressed enough by him in the games that he has seen and that he feels that he can get more out of him and the team as a whole."

"Darragh is a very valuable member of the squad and we hope that he will prove Wayne right over the coming seasons. We're delighted that he has extend his stay with us."
