Robinson scoops PRA Player of Year award
May 28, 2002

Jason Robinson was named the PRA Computacenter Players' Player of the Year at tonight's prestigious PRA Computacenter Rugby Players' Awards held at the Lord's Cricket Ground in London, to seal a memorable double after claiming the Zurich Player of the Year Award last week.

The Sale Sharks and England Fullback capped another memorable season landing the game's ultimate individual award.

The country's most irrepressible attacker has helped the Sharks win the Parker Pen Shield, finish second in the Zurich Premiership, scoring nine tries along the way, as well as helping the club reach the Semi Finals of the Zurich Championship.

Some 400 professional rugby players in England cast their votes for the PRA Computacenter Rugby Players' Awards and in only his second season in rugby union since switching codes in 2000, Robinson held off other leading names including international team-mates Jonny Wilkinson and Lewis Moody to land the coveted PRA Computacenter Players' Player of the Year Award.

Having collected his award, Robinson commented: "To be voted the player of the season by my peers is a tremendous honour especially as there are so many good players in the Premiership. This is a very special award and one I am very proud to have received."

Jason Robinson's colleague, Charlie Hodgson made it a double for the Sale Sharks after being named the PRA Clarke Willmott & Clarke Young Player of the Year. Having recently signed for the club for another three years, twenty two year old Hodgson has had a brilliant year guiding the Sharks to European glory in the Shield, scoring 273 points in the Zurich Premiership in his first full season, and being named as England's first choice fly-half for the tour to Argentina this summer.

Hodgson commented: "It's been an unbelievable season for me. A year ago all I was thinking about was trying to secure a first team place at Sale, so to be nominated and then to win the PRA Clarke Willmott & Clarke Young Player of the Year Award is a huge honour and something I will treasure for the rest of my career."

Damian Hopley, CEO of the PRA said: "It's fantastic to have so many of the current crop of Premiership stars here to celebrate the end of another memorable season. As well as honouring the outstanding individual and collective playing achievements of the past year, tonight is also very much about raising money for the injured player's fund and improving the services for all the PRA members. Many congratulations again to Jason Robinson and Charlie Hodgson along with tonight's other winners and nominees."
