Kefu, Paul may return for Wallabies
July 6, 2002

Injured stars Toutai Kefu and Jeremy Paul could return for Australia's Tri Nations opener against the All Blacks next weekend.

Kefu (broken hand) and Paul (rib cartilage) have been out of action since the first Test against France two weeks ago, but are now expected back and outside centre Matthew Burke is also tipped to shrug off a shoulder problem.

Kefu's quick recovery has provided the biggest surprise, with medical staff said to be stunned he is ready to resume full training so quickly after having a pin and plate inserted in his hand.

Paul similarly wasn't expected back until at least the Test against South Africa on July 27, but says if he can get through his first contact training session he will probably play. "I think I'm a pretty good chance at this stage, it's improved a lot," HE said.
