Leicester unveil new trio
July 9, 2002

English and European Champions Leicester Tigers have shown that they have no intention of resting on their laurels next season by adding three more players to their already glittering squad.
French prop Franck Tournaire, Irish Scrum half Tom Tierney and Welsh youth hooker Rhys Williams will all be at Welford Road next season, and for the 49 times capped Tournaire it could be the spur he needs to return to the test squad.
Out of favour at International level for the last two seasons the former Toulouse player will however concentrate on cementing his place in the Leicester side before thinking of a return to French colours. "I'd love to be involved in the World Cup again," he said. "But it's not my first priority. I'm not here to find a place straight away. I'm here to learn and progress so if I don't find a place I won't be disappointed. Players will have to battle for places and I'm sure it means that we'll put in our best performances."
For Tierney it could also mark a major shift in fortunes. A series of injuries has hampered the 25-year-old since he made his Irish debut in 1999 and he believes the move from Munster could re-ignite his test hopes. "With the World Cup coming up next October, I feel that if I can do well here I can hopefully push into the Irish squad. I've been very unfortunate with injury over the last two years but I'm back to full health and I feel it's a great time to start with a new club."
