Gloucester sign Ellis to new deal
July 16, 2002

Zurich Premiership side Gloucester have secured defensive coach Dave Ellis with a new three-year deal.

Ellis, who will continue in his role as defensive coach for France, has spent much of the summer in Australia picking up tips on defensive patterns from Aussie rules football and rugby league.

He is delighted with the new deal at Kingsholm and is looking forward to planning Gloucester's Heineken Cup campaign alongside Nigel Melville.

"I am very pleased with the progress we made last season, despite the internal problems with a new coach coming in. We finished the season off very well and when Nigel came along I could see that things would continue to change for the better," he told the club's official website, www.gloucesterrugbyclub.co.uk.

"The important thing is that we have not had massive changes in the playing staff we can build on what we did last year. We still have a lot to do but at least we don't have to start from zero with a lot of new players.

"It was also very important to me that the players wanted me to stay they made their feelings known.

"At the end of the day it is vital that the people you are working with see the value in what you do and that they can see that you will continue to make progress.

"It is a game of mutual respect, and I think we have that".
