Jenks hopes to return sooner rather than later

Pontypridd's Neil Jenkins is desperately battling back to fitness in the hope of making the Celtic League opener against Leinster.

The record holding No.10 picked up a knee injury in pre-season training earlier this month and was expected to be sidelined for up to seven weeks.

However, following intensive treatment he hopes to make a return four weeks ahead of schedule.

"At first we were looking at six to seven weeks, but the injury has healed well and at a push I could be having a run at the end of the week," Jenkins told the Western Mail.

"Two weeks from now might be pushing it, but I want to play and am looking at the first weekend of the season. It's something to aim for.

Jenkins wass speaking at Pontypridd's impressive 45-5 victory over Coventry at Sardis Road.

A below strength Ponty side were too strong for their visitors, outscoring them seven tries to one.
