Scarlets edge out Carmarthen

Llanelli edged out Carmarthen Quins 10-8 in their latest pre-season clash.

The Scarlets took on the best defence in last season's Division 1 in front of a large crowd and had to rely on a late conversion from flyhalf Gareth Bowen to clinch victory.

Penalties from fly-halves Paul Fisher and Bowen were the only scoring in the first half.

On the hour mark the home side deservedly took the lead as the forwards drove into the heart of the Scarlets' defence, flanker Alan Mason crashing over.

The home try line was breached five minutes from time by Wayne Proctor before Bowen gave them victory with a superb touchline conversion.
