Howells delighted Bell is staying

Pontypridd coach Lynn Howells has expressed his delight at the news that Duncan Bell will be remaining at Sardis Road this season.

Prop Bell's proposed move to Zurich Premiership side Bath collapsed this week in a development that ensures Ponty's Welsh Cup winning front row will return this season.

"It's a big boost for us because we know about Duncan and how good he is," Howells told the South Wales Echo.

"We know what his strengths are and it's excellent news because he played a big part in our success last season.

"People talk down the importance of the scrum but our front row allowed us to function last year and without it we just wouldn't have able to play the way we did. Everything starts from there.

"So it's great that we will have all three still with us.

"It also adds stability to the start of the season because he is familiar with us and the rest of the boys know him.

"If you bring someone new in you have to start from scratch."
