Tackle Cancer 10s raises $15k for cancer research

Seventeen rugby clubs and more than 300 spectators gathered in Pittsburgh this past weekend for the second annual Dianna Orsini Tackle Cancer Tens.

The 10-a-side tournament was the culmination of fundraising activities by the Highlander Rugby Football Club and the Pittsburgh Angels RFC that began at the start of the summer and resulted in the raising of $15,000 (USD), which will be donated to the American Cancer Society (ACS).

On the pitch - the tournament's men's division featured such stalwart men's clubs as the Pittsburgh Harlequins and the Rochester Aardvarks, along with defending tournament champions the Pittsburgh Rugby Club.

In addition a host of regional men's sides participated such as the Greensburg and Mon River RFC's along with Virginia-based Winchester RFC. In total, 12 men's sides participated in this extremely competitive division, which witnessed the Pittsburgh Harlequins walk away with this year's tournament championship.

The women's division saw a repeat of last year as host, and returning champion, the Pittsburgh Angel RFC defeated second place finisher Lehigh Valley for this year's tournament championship.

The Highlander and Pittsburgh Angel RFCs wish to thank all of the clubs that participated, along with the corporate and community sponsors, which made this year's tournament a success.
