Neath too good for Caerphilly
August 31, 2002

Adrian Durston scored a try on his competitive Neath debut as the Welsh All Blacks opened their Celtic League campaign by seeing off Caerphilly 25-6 at The Gnoll.

But Neath missed out on a bonus point as the visitors prevented them scoring four tries.

Durston crossed early in the second half after following up his own kick ahead and beating the defence to the bounce.

There was also a fine try by wing Kevin James, who accepted a pass from Durston to motor over from 40 metres.

But Neath could not add to their tally of three tries despite having an abundance of possession.

They led 8-6 after a lacklustre first half which refused to ignite.

Just about the only bright moment arrived on 13 minutes when the Welsh All Blacks manufactured a superb try.

It began with Durston, who joined from Bridgend at the end of last season, making ground some 60 metres out.

Dave Tiueti, James Storey and James then linked before Rowland Phillips sent Shane Williams over with a neat inside pass.

Lee Jarvis added a penalty but uncharacteristically pulled three shots at goal in the opening half hour.

For Caerphilly, fly-half Luke Richards knocked over two penalties to reward his team's endeavour.
