Tigers report record profit
September 13, 2002

Zurich Premiership side Leicester Tigers have declared a profit of £644,000, the third year in succession that they have been in the black and they remain the only club to have recorded a profit in that time.

The preliminary figures show an increase of almost £300,000 on the previous 12 months.

Martin Johnson's Tigers made history last season by retaining the Heineken Cup, and they also won a fourth successive Premiership title.

Those achievements are heavily reflected in the club's financial report, which reveals increased revenue of 22% to £9.5 million, incorporating a 14% ticket sales rise and improved corporate hospitality figures.

"These results are testimony to the unrivalled following that our club enjoys, and we will be investing in new facilities for our supporters and players," said Peter Tom, chairman of Leicester Football Club plc.

"We have already embarked on a £1 million project at our Oval Park training ground, developing a new fitness complex for our players.

"On the pitch, we became the first side to win back-to-back European Cups, and extended our Premiership winning run to four successive titles.

"This unprecedented achievement was a major influence on our commercial performance, and we look forward to building on our success in all areas, including developing Tigers as a global rugby brand.

"Tigers once again had the highest match attendances in English club rugby, with average match ticket sales of 14,777," he added.

"We are the best supported club in the country, and this has enabled us to develop into European leaders on and off the pitch."
