Shelford makes nine chnages
September 13, 2002
Saracens coach Wayne Shelford has made nine changes, three positional, to the starting line-up for Sunday's Zurich Premiership clash with London Irish at the Madejski Stadium.
Adryan Winnan comes in at full back for Thomas Castaignede, Richard Haughton comes onto the wing in place of Darragh O'Mahony, Tom Shanklin switches with Ben In the forwards, try scorer last Sunday - Joe Ross starts at hooker, while Abdel Benazzi and Kieran Roche replace Stuart Hooper and Craig Yandell. The outgoing players, save O'Mahony, all take their places on the bench with Shelford proclaiming that the shape of the team hasn't changed.
"Some people might say why change a winning team?" posed Shelford this morning. "Well I say why not?! It's better for players to come into a team that's winning than when it's losing. I see it more as a pat on the back to the guys. They've played well and got us two "The important thing for me is that we're sensible with our squad. I don't want players burnt out by Christmas. In this way all the players will be fresh come the halfway stage and hungry to play. "It's not about individuals, it's about the team. The squad is made up so that when we need to switch players there is little difference, we do it all the time at training."
