Jenkins kicks Ponty to victory
September 14, 2002

Neil Jenkins, Pontypridd's prodigal son, gave a goal-kicking master class as Pontypridd ended Bridgend's winning run with a 26-9 triumph.

In his first full outing for Pontypridd since returning from a three-year spell at Cardiff, Jenkins landed seven magnificent penalties.

He turned the tide after a first-half stalemate with four superbly-judged shots in 15 second-half minutes as Ponty's juggernaut pack steamrollered their rivals into submission.

At the end of a bruising opening 40 minutes the sides were locked at 6-6.

The forward battle was uncompromising with defences well on top. Jenkins nudged the visitors in front before Craig Warlow opened The Ravens account. Then Jenkins and Warlow exchanged further penalties before the break.

But it all turned sour for Bridgend as Pontypridd turned the screw by destroying the home set-pieces and Jenkins took centre stage with his prodigious boot.

Rampant Pontypridd put the icing on the cake with a breakaway try by Richard Parks, after fellow back-rower Geraint had led a 60-metre raid.
