Stimpson breaks 1,000 points barrier
September 14, 2002

Tim Stimpson this evening became the first player to score 1000 points in Premiership rugby.

The Leicester full-back came into the game against Sale Sharks on 999 points, and after missing a long-range drop goal, slotted over a simple penalty to reach the landmark.

The Premiership was established for season 1997-98 and the former Newcastle star leads an illustrious pack all still chasing four figures.

Northampton's Paul Grayson, Newcaslte's Jonny Wilkinson and Kenny Logan of Wasps have all passed 900 points.

Stimpson was to be presented with a golden boot from Leicester director of rugby Dean Richards after the game to mark the achievement.
