Quins hit by Burke blow
September 27, 2002

Zurich Premiership side Harlequins' hopes of building on their first win of the season last weekend have been dealt a huge blow with the news flyhalf Paul Burke will be out for two months.

Burke injured his hamstring in the victory over London Irish at The Sttop last weekend and the tear is sufficient enough to sidleine him for up to eight weeks.

David Slemen will wear the No10 jersey and take over the goalkicking responsibilities. Slemen will have an extended run in the position and Mark Evans, Quins' head coach, told the Evening Standard, "It is a blow to lose a player of Paul's experience but we have a talented replacement who has proved he can do the job.

"We are also without England lock Alex Codling, who has suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury, but we intend to build on our win over London Irish and the spirit in the camp is very good."

Quins are also without Will Greenwood, the England centre, following the death of his baby son Frederick, who had been born prematurely. The funeral will take place today.
