Howley returns for Wasps
September 27, 2002

Director of Rugby Warren Gatland has made only two changes to the starting XV that played Saracens last week.

Welsh legend Rob Howley returns to scrumhalf position with Martyn Wood moving to the bench and winger Shane Roiser returns from the hamstring injury that kept him out of the Saracens game, in the place of Kenny Logan. Logan will however be on the bench.

The return of Roiser (who will play at number 14) means that Josh Lewsey will move to the number 11 position. The only other change is on the bench with John Rudd missing out due to Roiser's return and Logan on the bench.

The first four games of the Zurich Premiership have produced mixed results for London Wasps. Two wins, a loss and a draw have placed Wasps fourth on the table and this weekend the side will be looking to capitalise on last week's win and secure their first away win.

The first half of the season has not been dull for 'The Men in Black', with a nail-biting injury time wins over the Bristol Shoguns, a last-minute drop goal draw at Bath and a runaway five try trouncing over Saracens. Warren Gatland's team have shown that they can score tries and with Josh Lewsey one of the leading try scorers (four) in the Zurich Premiership this season, London Irish will be faced with trying to stem the 'The Men in Black' and a Lewsey onslaught.

Asked how he felt about starting the third game in a different position, Lewsey said, " I doesn't really bother me. Warren picks the best XV and it's great to be picked. As long as I can run at people I don't really care."

It's this statement that could see Lewsey adding to his try tally come Sunday.

Games between London Irish and London Wasps have always being a close affair, and winning honours stand even (eight wins each) between the clubs. Sunday's game should be no different as local derbies are always a great showpiece for the sport.
