Waikato go top as Canterbury crush North Harbour
September 28, 2002

Waikato moved to the top of the NCP table with a narrow 25-16 win over Auckland on Saturday.

The game had been close throughout but a late try from Bruce Reihana saw the home side home. The win, which was built on five Dave Hill penalty successes, secures a home semi final for the mooloo men.

Meanwhile at Jade Stadium Canterbury retained the Ranfurly Shield with a crushing 65-10 win over North Harbour. After trailing 3-0 early on Canterbury built a 29-3 half time lead and demolished Harbour in the second period with Joe Maddock collecting five tries.

In Saturday's third game Northland collected their first win of the campaign downing Bay of Plenty 49-23. The win gives Northland a slim hope of missing the relegation play off should they win their final game next weekend.
