Wood misses Aussie showdown
November 1, 2002

Ireland captain Keith Wood will miss his country's Test match against Australia at Lansdowne Road next week.

The Quins hooker has not fully recovered from a neck injury he suffered during Ireland's World Cup qualifier against Russia.

Irish coach Eddie O'Sullivan had named Wood in his squad for the game against the world champions but, having been ruled out of Quins' Zurich Premiership clash with Bath, it was unlikely the inspirational hooker would recover in time.

Leinster's Shane Byrne is now expecxted to start the match with Munster hooker Frankie Sheahan called into the Irish squad as Wood's replacement.
