Vickerman gets the nod
November 2, 2002

ACT Brumbies lock Dan Vickerman will make his Wallabies starting debut in Saturday's Test against Argentina at River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires.

Wallabies coach Eddie Jones decided to go for Vickerman ahead of veteran David Giffin.

The match against the Pumas is only Vickerman's second match for the Wallabies after he came off the bench against France this year.

Jones said he was expecting a tough match, which will be the Wallabies first in over two months. Argentina also has also won four of the six matches it has played against Australia in Buenos Aires.

"Given we haven't played a Test in nine weeks, we know we are going to do it tough in the second half," Jones said. "That's why the reserves will be so important to us.

"We expect the Argies to really come out firing so it is important that we are able to absorb that, and then finish it ourselves."
