Castaignede makes international return

Saracens' Thomas Castaignede completed a dramatic comeback to the international fold on Sunday when he was cally Bernard Laporte to replace the injured Clement Poitrenaud for the clash with South Africa next Saturday.

Castaignede, 27, ruptured his Achilles tendon while warming up for les blues clash with Australia in November 2000.

Since then the mercurial French man has battled back to fitness and has also been the subject a fight for compensation between the Zurich Premiership side and the French Rugby Federation.

Castaignede, who has played at fly-half and fullback has been in sparkling form for Sarries but his last cap against Italy in April 2000.

Fullback Poitrenaud injured his ribs in the first-half of his side Toulouse's 43-20 thrashing of Perpignan on Saturday and a scan subsequently ruled him out of contention for the three November Tests.

France play New Zealand in the Stade de France on November 16 and Canada at the same venue a week later.
