Tune facing lengthy lay-off
November 5, 2002

Injury plagued Wallaby and Reds winger Ben Tune could be sidelined for six months depending on the extent of a hamstring injury.

Tune will arrive in Brisbane on Wednesday after sustaining the injury during the 17-6 win against Argentina in Buenos Aires on Sunday.

He will undergo an MRI scan on Thursday and if surgery is required the luckless winger could be on the sidelines for six months. That would place him under tremendous pressure to make the Australian squad for the domestic international series and the Tri Nations.

If the injury is a minor tear then Tune will rest for six weeks and be able to recover in time for the start of the Queensland Reds' Super 12 campaign.

The Reds play their first trial in Toowoomba on January 31 before trial games against the Canterbury Crusaders and Auckland Blues.

Tune has had a horror run with injuries over the past two years and when he finally did make it back on the field this season it coincided with a drugs controversy.
