Wallabies lose Lyons
November 6, 2002

The injury-hit Wallabies have suffered another blow, with David Lyons ruled out of Saturday's Test against Ireland.

With Ben Tune (hamstring) back in Australia and Jeremy Paul (hamstring) and Mat Rogers (rib cartilage) already out, coach Eddie Jones won't be able to give Lyons a starting berth for the first time because his hip injury hasn't recovered sufficiently.

While Lyons has joined the other three players on the sidelines, and prop Bill Young is in Australia for the birth of his first child, Australia may regain Owen Finegan and retain Matt Burke (corked thigh).

Finegan needs to get through training on Thursday to take his place in the team to battle the Irish at Lansdowne Road in Dublin, while Jones hopes Paul will be back to take on England the following Saturday at Twickenham, but Rogers' fate remains unknown.
