Melville criticises citing procedure
November 7, 2002

Gloucester coaching director Nigel Melville has hit out at the Rugby Football Union's citing procedure after lock Ed Pearce was accused of stamping on a Wasps player.

Pearce becomes the third Gloucester player to be called before the RFU, with Adam Eustace and Mark Cornwell appearing at a disciplinary hearing on Thursday night after being shown red and yellow cards respectively against Wasps two weeks ago.

Melville said: "As far as I am concerned it is getting out of hand. The sport does not need it - we are going down the wrong road.

"We cannot start banning people week in week out but there was a big issue made of this game because it was high profile and on TV. It just sends out the wrong message."
