Wilko stars as England edge the All Blacks
November 9, 2002

Jonny Wilkinson was the star at Twickenham as England hung on to win 31-28 - only their fifth victory in 24 meetings with the All Blacks.

The Newcastle fly-half set-up tries for Ben Cohen and flanker Lewis Moody.
But he saved the best for himself, chipping over the top in the 45th minute
before gathering-up and sprinting home under the posts.

He also kicked points to eclipse Jon Callard's record as England's highest
individual points scorer in a single match against the All Blacks.

England looked to be running away with it at one point in the second half but
New Zealand fought back to put Clive Woodward's men under pressure late
on.

Jonah Lomu was England's chief tormentor yet again after powering to a try
in each half, with the second sparking the All Blacks' revival.

Substitute Danny Lee scrambled over the 70th minute to set-up a grandstand
finish but the storm was weathered with Cohen making a magnificent
try-saving tackle on Ben Blair with two minutes to go.

Injury forced the All Blacks to field a heavily weakened team for this match,
but that will have mattered little to Woodward who now has his first victory
over New Zealand.
