New 7s coach for Wallabies
November 14, 2002

Bill Millard has been named as the Australian Sevens coach for the 2002/03 IRB Sevens series.

He replaces Glen Ella, who has moved on to become the backs coach for the Wallabies.

Millard, 32, is excited by the appointment but cautious about how his team will perform.

"The standard of Sevens rugby on the IRB circuit is really improving, with
teams like South Africa and England fielding excellent teams. When you add the likes of Sevens giants New Zealand and Fiji, there is a tough task ahead of us in this year's series," Millard said.

Brett Robinson, General Manager of the ARU High Performance Unit, says that Millard inherits a great responsibility with the appointment.

"Apart from representing Australia on the IRB Sevens circuit, we see the
Australian Sevens team as an important tool to identify and develop
outstanding young players," Robinson said.

Australia will be looking to improve on last season's fifth place finish when this season's series kicks off in Dubai on December 5.

Sevens Rugby will be played in the 2006 Commonwealth Games and is under consideration for inclusion at the 2008 Olympic Games in Shanghai.
