Catt set for surprise return
November 27, 2002

England international Mike Catt could make a surprise reappearance for Bath at Sale this week - but the news for full-back Matt Perry is not so encouraging.

Catt was expected to spend up to a month on the sidelines as he shakes off niggling hamstring problems but he has shown improvement, according to Bath coach Mike Foley.

"The news on Mike Catt looks a lot better," Foley told the club's official website as he prepared his team for Friday's trip to Heywood Road.

"We are hoping to play him against the Sharks, but we are obviously keeping a close eye on him and will monitor the situation on a weekly basis.

"Two days ago Matt (Perry) had a fitness test and was passed 100 0.000000it. But yesterday in training he felt his hamstring again, which is most disappointing.

"He will miss the game on Friday, although we hope he will be back in time for the first game against Bridgend."

There are mixed fortunes for the team's other injured stars as Bath try to improve on their current ninth place in the Zurich Premiership.

"Dan Lyle will receive confirmation this morning of the seriousness of his shoulder injury after seeing a specialist and will not be involved on Friday," revealed Foley.

"But Gareth Cooper has made a good recovery and will be fit for the match 22 this weekend, and Olly Barkley ran very well yesterday with no problems whatsoever."

There was further good news on Adam Vander and Iain Balshaw, both of whom are targeting a return to action in the first match against Bridgend in the Parker Pen Challenge Cup.
