Searancke anger at official
December 26, 2002
Seething Glasgow chief Kiwi Searancke hit out over the decision by Murrayfield officials to give amateur John Hogg control of the crucial Inter-Pro clash with Edinburgh at Hughenden. After watching Borderer Hogg hand the Gunners a late equaliser with a dubious high-tackle penalty, the coach snapped: "There were two professional full-time referees at the ground. "One of them (Malcolm Changleng) was running the line and the other (Andy Ireland) was sitting in the stand. "This was a vitally important game for both teams, so I am amazed that the best referee wasn't given the job." It wasn't just the late penalty verdict that infuriated Searancke. He added: "The man spoiled it for the players and the supporters." Edinburgh coach Frank Hadden insisted his side had been unlucky not to sneak a win as he said after the 10-10 draw: "Either side created lots of chances, but I feel we had the bulk of them. "Ours was a gutsy display which showed the team spirit in our squad." |
