Davies glad to shake the cobwebs off

Leeds Tykes continued their bid for a top-three finish in the Zurich Premiership to secure their first taste of Heineken Cup rugby next season as they completed a 17-12 defeat of Bristol.

Director of rugby Phil Davies paid tribute to the commitment and drive of his players, who had not played a competitive game of rugby for four weeks.

He said: "We still haven't achieved a try-scoring bonus point this season and that is something that we are very conscious of. We need to put more phases together so we can get some tries on the board.

"We've done a lot of preparation going into this game, including a game against the Borders, and I'm pleased that we had this game before playing Newcastle on Friday night at Headingley.

"I'm not surprised by the amount of effort the players put in and they deserve credit for that because we have a high work ethic within the club and it has helped us crack a few milestones this season.

"We applied a lot of pressure in the first half and were awarded a penalty try but the second was an excellent try.

"There was good interplay between the forwards and backs, we kept the ball alive and though Isaac Fea'unati got the credit, it was a good team try."

Shoguns prop Julian White may have to miss England training having wrenched his knee during the first half of Bristol's eighth defeat in the league this season but their first at home since September when they lost to Northampton.
