Cheifs take rugby to the Mount

The Chiefs will make rugby history when they take on the Waratahs at Baypark Stadium in Mt Maunganui on Wednesday.

The Chiefs' pre-season game will be the first rugby match to be held at the 17,000-seated stadium - which is mainly used for motor racing.

Waratahs and Wallaby prop Patricio Noriega has a back injury and will be will be rested from the match as he is suffering from a minor back complaint.

"We thought with the plane trip and long bus travel in New Zealand it would be better to leave Pato at home," said coach Bob Dwyer. Randwick prop Matt Bowman has replaced Noriega in the 26-man tour squad that leaves for New Zealand today.

The squad: Matt Dunning, Adam Freier, Al Baxter, Tom Bowman, Van Humphries, Omar Hassanein, Phil Waugh, David Lyons, Chris Whitaker, Duncan McRae, Scott Staniforth, Nathan Grey, Matthew Burke, Lote Tuqiri, Mat Rogers, Brendan Cannon, Rod Moore, Jono West, Des Tuiavii, Paul Sheedy, Morgan Turinui, Milton Thaiday, Matt Bowman, Simon Kasprowicz, Ryan McGoldrick, Nathan Blacklock.

Kick off for the Chiefs v Waratahs game is at 6.00pm.
