Blues notch another win
February 11, 2003

The Auckland Blues continues their Super 12 preparations with a 38-14 Southern Cross victory over the Queensland Reds at Carrara on the Gold Coast on Tuesday night.

The victory follows their triumph over the ACT Brumbies on Friday night and also saw further game time in the rehabilitation of Blues stars, Carlos Spencer, Ron Cribb and Troy Flavell.

The Blues ran in six tries altogether with wing Rupeni Caucaunibuca grabbing a brace to win his personal battle with his opposite number Wendell Sailor who scored one.

The most notable try from the Auckland speedster came shortly after the break when Reds scrum-half Tim Atkinson broke grubbered straight into Caucaunibica's hands and he left Sailor and flanker, John Roe standing before stepping Chris Latham and ending his 75-metre run under the bar.

The Blues' other tries came from Orene Ai'i (2), Cribb and Bradley Mika.

Flanker John Roe was the other try-scorer for the Reds and Julian Huxley and Elton Flatley converted one try each.

The Blues scored three first half tries and led 19-7 at the break.
