Kirwan targets one win
February 12, 2003
Italy coach John Kirwan has set a target of one win in RBS Six Nations that kicks off this weekend. The Azzurri have not one a game in the northern hemisphere's showpiece event since their debut victory over Scotland in 2000 and many pundits are saying that their best chance of a win this year comes this weekend against Wales in Rome. "I want us us to win one game. Just one game. That will give the country a massive boost and kick-start people's interest in the sport," the former All Black told AFP. "We've got some very good, young guys coming through and we are improving in quality. It's all a question of timing. A win is what we need right now. It will give everyone a big lift." "My philosophy has always been to enjoy the game and I knew what I was up against when I took this job on, I was under no illusions. "But I never feel down about it. I love the challenge. I never lose my enthusiasm for it. Once you do, it is time to give it up." |
