Scottish Integrated Tournament Round-Up
March 1, 2003

Melrose kick-started their Integrated Tournament campaign with a convincing 29-13 victory over Hawick at The Greenyards.

And Greens gaffer Jim Hay was left lamenting his side's lack of competitive spirit.

The assistant coach said: "We've got to toughen up a bit. We seem to have lost that streetwise edge.

"Our play has always been based on a strong aggressive pack, and we seem to have lost that bite.

"We're not contesting and keeping the possession long enough."

Home coach Gary Parker said: "The pack laid the foundation. They tied Hawick in, and we looked dangerous behind.

"It was a solid all-round team performance, and everyone played well. The professional players have come in and they've made themselves available to come down on Tuesdays as well as Thursdays and they've really embraced the club."

Aberdeen GSFP pipped Stirling County 32-21 at Bridgehaugh - but the real cause for celebration came when coach Damien Reidy and hat-trick hero Rod Seib signed up for another season.

Reidy said: "We are very lucky because Rod is good enought to get into one of the pro-squads."

County coach Eddie Pollock declared: "We created enough chances to win - but the performance was reasonable."
