Swansea recover to edge out Vale

Swansea 21 Ebbw Vale 17

Outside-half Gavin Henson supplied eleven points as Swansea came back from 17-5 down to beat Ebbw Vale at St Helens.

The Wales Under-21 star put over three penalties and a conversion to inspire a remarkable recovery as the Gwent side looked like celebrating their first victory at Swansea in 25 years.

Ebbw Vale had the upper hand in the scrums and after enjoying a try count of three-two in their favour, will have been devastated to see Swansea steal victory at the death.

Ebbw Vale opened up a 12-5 lead by half-time courtesy of tries from number eight Kati Tuipolotu and centre Rhys Shorney.

But in between those two scores Swansea scrum-half Rhodri Jones scored a fine individual effort to keep Swansea in the contest.

Unfortunately for Swansea and Jones he had to go off just before half-time with a suspected fractured cheekbone.

And there was more bad news for Swansea early in the second half when
outside-half Scott Mitchell claimed the visitor's third try.

But gradually Swansea began to claw their way back into the contest with two Henson penalties before centre Steve Winn went over for the crucial try with Henson's conversion taking Swansea into the lead for the first time.

Henson gave Swansea a four-point cushion with a third penalty which was enough to see them home.
