RFU block on-field interviews
March 7, 2003

The BBC's plans to interview an England player on the Twickenham pitch after the final whistle against Italy on Sunday have been blocked by the Rugby Football Union.

The Evening Standard reports that although the RFU agreed to let Will Greenwood speak after the win over France the headlines he created have forced a re-think.

As a result, no pitch interview took place after the victory in Cardiff against Wales.

According to the newspaper the BBC informed Twickenham chiefs that the new £70million contract to screen the Six Nations included a paragraph covering this situation.

However, the RFU discovered this was not the case and that, although a request could be made, it didn't have to be agreed.
