Revised HK 7s Draw
March 25, 2003

The Hong Kong Rugby Football Union, organizers of the Credit Suisse First Boston Hong Kong Sevens, confirmed the Netherlands as the third replacement team following the withdrawal of Argentina yesterday.

IRB Sevens Manager Mark Egan supervised the adjusted draw together with Tournament Director, Peter Burbidge King and Executive Director of the HKRFU Allan Payne at noon Hong Kong time today.

Tournament Director Peter Burbidge King commented "There was no requirement for a full event redraw, team positions have been adjusted to suit the current iRB Sevens standings which are based on performances in the last six tournaments."

The adjusted draw places seeded second tier teams into new pools. The first two replacement teams Namibia and Tonga face New Zealand and England respectively, whilst Canada are now seeded in the same pool as Fiji. Kenya play in pool D with Australia, Scotland will face South Africa in pool E and Wales are in pool F with Samoa. (Full adjusted draw is enclosed)

The third replacement team, Netherlands, are placed in group F alongside Samoa with Chinese Taipei moving up to the third seed in pool B.

Teams arriving today in Hong Kong include defending champions England, five-time Hong Kong Sevens winners Australia, Samoa, South Africa and Wales, along with four other teams, bringing the total number of arrived teams to 14. The remaining teams will arrive Wednesday 26 March.

The HKRFU continues to monitor both the international situation in the Middle East and the latest progress in the atypical pneumonia situation in Hong Kong. Participating teams are being kept updated on all developments.
