Waratahs snare Harrison
June 24, 2003

The NSW Waratahs have signed former Brumbies lock Justin Harrison for next season.

Harrison, who has played 17 Tests for the Wallabies, spent the majority of the 2003 Super 12 on the bench for the Brumbies, prompting his move north.

"I'm not ready to stop competing for a Wallaby position and with David Giffin and Daniel Vickerman ahead of me at the Brumbies and now they are in the Wallaby squad the best option is to move elsewhere and play against them." Harrison said in a statement.

"I look forward to putting my energy and commitment into a successful Super
12 with the Waratahs next year."

NSW Rugby Union Executive Director John McKay said Harrison's signing was a coup for the Waratahs.

"Justin is a quality player who not only has Test experience but has also won a Super 12 and knows what it takes to be successful," said McKay.

"He realises that the best way to get his spot back in the Wallabies is to
play well and help the team win."

Harrison added that the presence of new Waratahs coach and former teammate Ewen MacKenzie also played a prt in his decision.

"Having played with Ewen and having been coached by him at the Brumbies and the Wallabies I'm familiar with his approach and Ewen is looking to challenge my Rugby and move it forward," said Harrison.

Harrison played 69 Super 12 Games for the Brumbies.
