Wasps sign duo
July 9, 2003

London Wasps Rugby Club are pleased to announce that Ian Clarke and Peter Richards have joined the club.

Clarke, who has represented England at U21 level, is a former Leeds Tyke No.8/6 while Richards, who has played at England A level, joins from the Bristol Shoguns and will play at No.9.

Director of Rugby Warren Gatland said, "I'm delighted at Peter's and Ian' s signings as I feel they will contribute a great deal to the club over the next season. With Martyn Wood leaving for Bath, we needed a good backup to Rob Howley and I feel Peter will offer this.

"Clarke is still young, but he is a big strong forward who can play at six or eight. I'm assuming we will lose a few players to Clive Woodward's World Cup squad and so the new signings will offer decent backup."

Clarke and Richards have signed two-year deals. Their signings, along with Tom Voyce (Fullback/Wing, Bath), Tim Payne (Prop, Cardiff) and Jonny O' Connor (Flank, Connacht) are the only signings for the forthcoming season.
