Fiji squad to tour New Zealand

Fiji coach Mac McCallion has named a squad of 26 players to tour New Zealand.

Of the 30 players that toured Australia last month, reserve props Jo Bale and Paula Biu, flanker Seta Tawake, fly-half Joseph Narruhn, wing Isaac Mow and Namosi fullback Atonio Nariva missed the cut.

Coming in to replace them are hooker Greg Smith from New Zealand and England-based fly-half Nicky Little, but halfback Jacob Rauluni misses out through injury. He remains in Brisbane getting treatment for a ligament injury he sustained in the opening minutes of the Fiji v Tonga Test on 4 July.

McCallion said one of the determining factors in his choices was whether a player could play in more than one position.

"We play three games in the South Island and then have a tough four-match tour of South America, so I need players who basically can cover other positions," the former New Zealand Maori captain said.

Fiji kick off the tour on 3 August with a match against Canterbury Development XV, followed by the Canterbury NPC team on 6 August and Marlborough-Blenheim on 9 August before travelling to South America to face Chile, Argentina and Uruguay in Ausgust.
